There is another language beyond language,
another place beyond heaven and hell.
Precious gems come from another mine,
the heart draws light from another source

The annual Little Gems exhibit opens tonight, Friday, February 9, at the West End Gallery. There is an opening reception that runs from 5-7 PM.
This is my 30th go-round at the Little Gems show. My first, back in 1995, was my first time ever displaying my work and, as I remember it, I was excited and more than a little apprehensive at the time. I wasn’t sure at that time if that would be my only opportunity to show my work.
Fortunately, things worked out. But I still get that same sort of anxiety with every new exhibit because every time you show your work, it is subject to judgement. And even after 30 years of this and numerous other group shows along with 60+ solo shows, I still get the feeling that I’m only as good as my last piece.
This anxiety ends up serving as a weird kind of motivator, driving me to dig a little bit deeper in the mine for new gems.
Here’s a short video of my new work for this show. Hope you see some gems in it.
