We can only be said to be alive in those moments when our hearts are conscious of our treasures; for our hearts are not strong enough to love every moment.
― Thornton Wilder, The Woman of Andros (1930)
Hope you’re feeling alive today and fully conscious of the treasures that you possess that can’t be measured in dollars and cents.
The sort of wealth that can’t be bought or sold.
Love. Friendship. Belonging. Contentment.
Those priceless jewels in our lives.
Have a Happy Thanksgiving.
Here’s a favorite song, the 70’s soul classic Be Thankful For What You Got, from William DeVaughn that I have shared a number of times here. Thought I’d play a cover of the song from the LA-based group Orgōne. It’s a faithful cover with the same vibe and just a few small additions to distinguish it.

Speaking of treasures, I just discovered a new one: a family band from Cebu City that began playing together in 2022. I’m going to highlight them in my blog, and will add more details there, but suffice it to say the parents have played in groups for years, took the kids to rehearsals with them, and the rest is history. In this video, drummer Isaiah is eleven years old; the keyboardist, the eldest, is fifteen. The ‘studio’ is their living room, and dad (who’s a sound engineer) does the mixing.
They’re the most happy-making thing I’ve come across recently, and I had to share them with someone. I thought you might enjoy them. Watching that kid on drums manage the Porcaro shuffle beat never gets old.
Thanks, Linda. These guys are great. There were a couple of family groups that sprang up on social media when the pandemic set in, most recorded in their living rooms. I watched a couple of them for a while and it was, as you say, happy-making. Good stuff.
