”Tis the times’ plague, when madmen lead the blind.”
— William Shakespeare, King Lear
I feel obligated to say something today. I’d rather not but my conscience won’t allow me to stay silent today.
I don’t know that I can even begin to comment on the despicable and demented recent statements from Trump after the murder of Rob Reiner and his wife by their son without it becoming a profanity filled rant. From his words and actions over the past decade it was already obvious to many folks, but the world is now witnessing the actions of a madman on full display.
From his orders to criminally murder fishermen off the Venezuelan coast and the masked ICE troops assaulting and brutalizing US citizens here to his betrayal of our historic allies to ordering the prosecutions of his political foes, every day reveals more and more of his descent into madness. And I am only scratching the surface here with this list.
And yet there are still those who accept each new depth of depravity as being the new normal.
It begs the question: Who is more insane, the madman or those who refuse to see it?
History will not be kind to this era and the mass hysteria that enabled a horrid, soulless creature such as this to assume such great power.
It has to stop. Now. There is no time to wait and see. That’s like watching a guy in camo carrying an assault rifle enter an elementary school and saying, “Hold on. Let’s wait and see what happens.”
We’ve already said that too many times and now he’s in the school. Now we must stop him before he finishes the job.
That is our obligation and responsibility in this moment.
I apologize for writing this. I try to make this a place to get away from such things. But it cannot be avoided by any one of us any longer, try as we may.
It is never going to get any better than it is at this moment. It will continue to get worse unless we bring it to an end. Now.
Gary, there is absolutely no reason to apologize! You are speaking to what so many of us are thinking and feeling. It is sad to think this is what we have become- afraid to speak our minds- because there is a madman leading our country. Thank you for putting into words and shining the light on the horrific situation we are living in…

Hi, Precious! Please understand that I am not apologizing for my words or thoughts. I could not be more confident in what I have said. I am apologizing to those folks who come to the blog as way of escaping from the craziness and chaos that is currently taking place. I try to make this site somewhat of a safe haven for those folks but sometimes the world cannot be ignored. This is one of those times. Wishing you all the best for the holidays, Precious!–gary
well said 🙁
Thanks, Sheila!
So true. He is totally delusional and hopefully, people will see it and do something.
Yes, it’s becoming so obvious that even his most ardent defenders can no longer spin it or ignore it without making themselves look as deranged and delusional as him.
Amen to your words. I feel like this weekend I was on some sort of fairground ride going up and down and then around and around again of sickness … on a campus, on a beach in Australia and in a home for a talented person I grew up watching on TV then followed appreciating his movies, etcetera. THEN the idiot in the oval office opened his mouth and with it a distain like I’ve never felt. I pray your words reach those with common sense … or voters to start the change in the new year.
Never have the words “impeach him” meant so much to me and to those who would truly like the Christmas refrain of Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all men, to be our new mantra.
May that be our new mantra! All good things to you for the holidays, Tamara.
Gary, I would just ask you to explain what you mean when you say he has to be stopped now. There’s no Constitutional remedy for what you describe that has any remote chance of succeeding. If you are referring to impeachment, that can’t possibly occur before January of ’26. And a Senate trial would follow that by months.
In the real world, “now” is not an option. Are you suggesting something very dark?
I hope you are doing well.
Regards, Dale
Hi, Dale. You’re right in that there is no constitutional remedy outside of the 25th Amendment and impeachment, which as you point out, are unlikely to succeed. And that is the problem. The fact that there are Republican congressman and senators who privately acknowledge their disgust and outrage at the actions of the administration yet publicly toe the line and cede their Constitutional authority is a tragedy for this country. I would hope that even a few more like Massie would have the spine to stand up and state the obvious. Maybe Congress taking back some of their power and acting as the check on executive power that they were meant to be rather than serving as lapdogs is what I mean by ‘now.’ But as you know, that’s a longshot, too. Way too much greed and self-serving there to expect them to do their duty.
That leaves us with the question of what is meant by dark? I don’t know, to be honest. You will probably disagree but to my way of seeing things, dark is already here, brought on by a spoiled bully/brat who has been coddled his entire life, a phony grifter who wouldn’t piss on me or you if we were on fire unless he could get something out of it for himself. I am not saying that I am suggesting anything dark, whatever that may mean, but sometimes you have to fight fire with fire.
I don’t know if that answers your question, Dale. You know that there are no easy answers as much as we might want them, especially in a situation like this that may folks see as unsustainable. I just want people, regardless of their political leanings, to look up from their phones and try to recognize what is true and what is manipulation. That’s probably asking too much but until the majority of the citizenry gets stirred up, we are on a pretty dark path forward. Just how I see it, Dale.
Hope you’re doing well, Dale. Best wishes for the holidays. Take care–gary
